part 5
The next morning the phone rang, piercing the air like a sargeant's whistle. I groaned and flipped it open without even looking at it. "What?" I moaned, desperately wanting to get back to sleep.
"Hey baby. Just wanted to say goodmorning." he sounded scared. I immediately put on the "I'm fine" voice.
"Oh. You just woke me up, that's all. Goodmorning." when would he go away? I needed sleep.
"Hey, you wanna hang out today? Go to the cafe or something?" he asked in his sweet voice. I sighed. How could I resist?
"Sure. Just let me rub the sleep out of my eyes, kay?" I sat up, muscles aching.
"Okay. I'll be there in an hour." he said. "Love you."
"Love you." I hung up. I sat there and frowned. Why did I feel like I hurt him? Oh yeah, cuz I partied my ass off at a party he was invited to. I found a stoner friend, without him knowing. I also had a guy who most likely developed a crush on me over night. I sighed and wiped all that away, got up, and went to get ready.
"Your eyes are red, Lyssa. You feeling okay?" he said over the table outside the cafe, putting his cup down. I put my head in my arms and stayed there.
"Just stayed up late last night. I'm fine. Don't worry." My muffled voice had no enthusiasm in it. I didn't care. I felt dead.
"Hm. Okay." he said shortly, and then it was quiet for a while. Until.....
"Hey girl, funny seeing you out here." I heard a girl say. I picked my head up slowly, and saw Chelsea. I smiled.
"Hi." I said meekly.
"Oh. You don't look so good. Hard night for you last night?" she asked, pouting playfully and rubbing my arm.
"Uh, yeah..." I glanced at Thomas, and thought up of a quick excuse. "We were studying for math last night." I smiled, then looked pointedly at Chelsea. She caught on quick, gave a small smile, and nodded.
"Yeah. Hopefully we'll do great. Catch up on your sleep tonight, okay?" She said, then walked off. I sighed and put my head back in my arms. My large coffee was only half empty. My stomach was feeling really weird, but I didn't want to mention it to Thomas. Now was a bad time for complaining.
"She in your class?" he asked. I looked at him and nodded. Then I sat back and tried to relax. He didn't know. It was going to be fine, as long as he didn't know.
"Better finish that. It's kinda cold out." He said, looking around. I did too; everyone was wearing a coat or long sleeves. I was wearing my favorite red jacket, but it was a little thin. I nodded and chugged the other half, hoping I wouldn't throw up on him. "So, what else are we doing today?" I asked, hoping to sound happy.
"I'm driving you home. You need your sleep. Come." He said, taking my cup and throwing it away. I hesitated. Did he know? I hoped not. He didn't sound happy. I obeyed, thankful though. Sleep was so close it was forcing me to lay my head on the window of his car, and close my eyes........
"Hey, Lyssa? wake up." he was shaking my shoulder. I woke up with a jerk. He stared at me, then got out of the car. He went around and opened the door. I got out and stood in front of him. Hoping he would kiss me. Hoping he wasn't mad at me.
"See you tomorrow?" I asked, looking at the ground. He picked up my chin gently, and kissed me for a long time. Electricity shot through my body. He broke it off.
"I want to see my fire sprite tomorrow, okay?" he asked a little sadly. I nodded. I turned and walked into the house without saying another word, without another backward glance. I didn't even know if that fire sprite was still in there.
